A breathalyzer is a common tool that police will use to test the blood-alcohol content (B.A.C.) of someone suspected of driving while intoxicated. While a common tool, it is not 100% accurate. Because of these inaccuracies, you should not submit to a breathalyzer as part of a field sobriety test.

NH Breathalyzer Test – If you should choose to refuse, you will be brought to a police station to undergo a more rigorous breathalyzer testing. Again, this is an optional test, but a refusal can lead to a license suspension of up to 2 years.

Because of the highly precise measurements of these devices, both the testing equipment and operator need to be certified. If you are suspected of a DWI and you submit to a breathalyzer, you may request a breath sample to be validated by an independent testing facility.
